Law Practice. “Rick” has been practicing law since 1988. He has been a partner in a down town Phoenix firm and an East Valley law firm. From the beginning he has maintained his own practice, now known as Durfee Law Group, PLLC. Rick’s practice is limited to representing high net worth and high income individuals, families, and their businesses. He focuses on Preventive Law — Dynasty estate planning, eliminating or minimizing taxes, asset protection, strategic planning for businesses, charitable planning, and turning the gift of wealth into a blessing rather than a curse. Rick has clients from all over Arizona and the United States. His personal motto is, “Live Well, Leave a Legacy.”™

Speaking. Rick is a popular nationally known speaker, and has been featured at the Money Show, the Freedom Fest, and other conventions. He is frequently engaged by financial brokerage firms and professional associations to provide continuing education on dynasty estate planning, asset protection, and charitable planned giving.

Affiliations. Rick is admitted to practice before the Arizona Supreme Court, the United States District Court, and the IRS. He was a founding director of Arizona Bank & Trust. He has served on the Board of Gilbert Chamber of Commerce and on the Planned Giving Committees for Chandler Regional Hospital, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Advocates Council for the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He is President and Director of Legacy Global Foundation, Inc. He is a regular contributor to a number of blogs on line. He has served on occasion as a JUDGE PRO TEM in the Maricopa County Justice Courts. He serves in many positions as a volunteer leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Publications. Rick has authored many articles and publications including, “The Estate Planning Guide to Better Sex,” “Leave Your Estate To Your Children Without Ruining Them,” “Why All Trusts Are Not Created Equal,” “Now That You’re In, How Are You Getting Out?: Exit Strategies for Business Owners,” “Preventive Law Primer,” and many others. (Prior to his legal career he published in Japan.)

Academics. He has three degrees, all from Arizona State University: a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Language (Japanese/Chinese), and Master of Arts in Religious Studies, and a Juris Doctor in the law. He also holds various certifications for computer programming, and is a Seminary and Institute of Religion graduate.

Personal & Family. Rick and Janel have been married since 1982, and they are the parents of eight children. They live in Gilbert, where Rick is active in Scouting, Church and community. Rick is an Eagle Scout, loves to read, bike, hike, meditate, play the piano, compose music, and occasionally indulge in music theater.
